Far East Chinese for Youth (Spanish MPS Version) is a Chinese language program for students in overseas Chinese elementary schools and high schools, and consists of a Textbook, Workbook, Teacher's Guide and audio CDs. This edition uses traditional characters and MPS (Mandarin Phonetic Symbols, also known as Bopomofo) for phonetic transcription. For the convenience of native Spanish speakers, a Spanish translation is provided alongside the Chinese text. Course content is based on the principles of communicative learning, in which the conversations and short essays provided are based upon practical, concrete situations. Vivid illustrations are paired with vocabulary items to make learning easier and more enjoyable. Each of the various units in this course is designed to develop communication skills and include situational conversations, listening comprehension drills, speaking exercises and introductions to Chinese culture. The course's rich and comprehensive content, including ample cultural content aiding learners in understanding the Chinese way of life and system of values, helps to develop the four communication basic skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing.
